sunday things

Hard to believe but fall is coming to this part of Utah.  Our warmest temps have been in the low 70s and the nights are cold.  You can see the tinge of red coming to the hills and meadows.

I'm not sure the name of this plant but they are all turning this rusty red and I adore them.  They would be spectacular in big vases.

It was so cold the other day I had to get a warm sweater.  We were in Salt Lake City and I popped into Forever 21 and grabbed this sweater which already appears to be sold out.  But it just blows me away that in mid-August I'm cold. It reminds me of a robe and also if you've been reading a long time, it reminds me of the day I semi-stalked a woman in the market.  Sorry it is sold out but had I seen this one I would have been torn.

What else, what else?  We are going to see Straight Outta Compton today and I cannot wait.

And one more thing that is literally driving me crazy.  The comments on the How are You? post have overwhelmed me.  Your stories are so real and inspirational and it proves we are not in this alone. We all have struggles and we are all survivors.  From the warmest place in my heart I thank you all for sharing.  The part that is driving me crazy is that I've not been able to respond to each one like I want to.  Larry is my witness in that I've tried for days to answer them.  I had a big Windows update the other day and I think that is what has gone wrong.  Some comments post and some don't.  Some I've answered at least 7 times.  They don't appear on my blog but they do on Larry's computer.  It is so frustrating.  I will keep trying but I want you to know I've read each one and can relate to you all. I've said it before and it's always true...you are the best.  x

  2. I think it's wild amaranth? There's been a true shift here too and I'm so enjoying it! This is my favorite time of year. All the best produce but with twinges of autumn setting in. It's also prime Fleetwood Mac season, in my opinion. How nice you're getting to experience a change in seasons! It really is a joy to have the chance to reboot and change with the seasons. They each bring a new energy!

  3. I wish it felt like fall was coming to NJ but instead it is sweltering. I took one of the dogs for a walk this morning and she was panting so hard and loud that I was terrified I gave her heat stroke. Send sweater weather this way please! xoxo

  4. It's still sweltering here in NorCal, today it'll be 106! but Fall is slowly, slowly creeping in. The light has softened just a little and the mornings are a little darker and a little crisper. Big smiles on my face, I LOVE fall!

  6. It's not surprising that you are cold...the altitude must be to blame.
I love long cozy cardigans and yours reminds me of a RL version I saw a year ago and left hanging in the store because I was saving for Paris!
The fall arrivals are showing up in the shops and a new cardigan is at the top of my list too!
Sorry that you are experiencing computer woes...they frustrate me no end when they occur....hope it gets sorted out soon.

  9. You are killing me, you know. If you were back in Redlands, you'd be swooning from the heat. National Weather Service called the whole weekend as "excessive heat warning" and I think it was 107 degrees yesterday in Van Nuys. It is... s.c.o.r.c.h.i.n.g. Can't go anywhere or do anything, and they don't want us to; stay inside, try to keep cool. I was looking out the window at one of my feral cats (he's coal black) and he was trying to lay in some shade in the backyard and was basically stretched out flat like a pancake on the small amount of lawn we have left, trying to get cool. I had just refreshed the bird bath after 4pm, when we're allowed again to have on outside water without getting fined and I think he actually was enjoying laying in the water-dappled grass, whereas cats usually shy from water/wet. Poor guy, so darn hot. Me, too!

  10. Same here in northern Europe - I am wearing a woolen cardigan today to the office as well (but no socks yet... no socks til September) - though our summer so far has been much hotter than the last 2 years. On the European 'forever 21' webpage your cardigan isnt sold out yet, so I might give it a go... it looks really fab. Cardigans are for me the most versatile peace of clothing for our climate, I live in them year round.
    Take care

    2. I got the cardigan yesterday and I love it. It's weird because it is really not my usual style, and I was a bit worried but I love it. Though temperatures are going to go up during the day today it was really cold this morning so I wore it on the way to the office with black slim cropped 'office' pants, white silk blouse and black patent ballerinas - looks great, so I think it is going to be very versatile

And ,I agree with Hostess of the HB.....it has a total RL vibe! Love the other one you picked out too. Would love to hear what you think of the movie. Hope you figure out the computer issue!

the movie was excellent. my favorite movie of the year. i want to see it again. xo

    2. Janet, I know the movie got a lot of hype and is a giant success but I know little about it. Do you think it's more interesting because of the whole L.A. scene (i.e., for us natives) or was the acting really good, musics[?], was the story a real draw for you (gripping; uplifting?); what made it excellent? 'Cause believe me, when somebody tells me it's their fave movie of the year, I don't want to miss it! I think Paul Giamatti is a really good actor (loved him in the movie from, oh like ten years ago or more, called SIDEWAYS [the wine tour of Santa Ynez Valley north of Santa Barbara]; he's in a lot of things; I was just (briefly) reading/scanning that in COMPTON he plays Jerry Heller.

    3. vicki the movie had me in its grips from the first scene. yes, i do think growing up in southern california (and missing home right now) played a big part but the story, music and mostly the acting was excellent. paul was excellent too. i'm sure you've read that LAPD is not happy with the movie saying it is bad timing b/c of all the racial tension in the country but really??? this is their story and they have every right to tell it. i highly recommend.

  12. We're staying just outside Toronto this summer. Last night, having walked over to my brother's house and sitting in his garden, I thought I would pass out from the heat and humidity. It's been like this for several days - like having a hot wet blanket pressed up against your body.

  13. today in New York we are supposed to have record breaking heat. everyone is complaining about the weather but to be honest I don't mind it. I have to keep my mouth shut. what I hated was the seemingly endless bitter cold we had last winter and even the winter before. I realize that there are places in country where Winter is much harsher,so I shouldn't complain, but I hate the cold. I might think of moving but could not bear being away from my family. I do really like the sweater though. I suppose cute sweaters are a good reason to like colder temperatures.

    1. haha darby, cute sweaters help! the winters here are v v long and cold but that's what everyone loves about this place, lots of dry powder to ski in. L and i were starting to get into a complaining session this morning over coffee when he said we need to focus on all the amazing beauty we are surrounded by. so you two are simpatico! xo

  14. If you make it to Salt Lake again and want a quick meal that is vegan and delicious, check out Buds at 509 East 300 South. 100% plant-based and you can pick up a sandwich or salad for just 6 or 7 dollars. They are open Mon-Sat 11 A-5 P and they ate just a pick-up place, although there are a few picnic tables out front. It is probably my favorite all vegan place to eat and the cheese steak and buffalo sandwiches and taco salad are three of my favorites!

  15. Janet, that is a cute sweater and how great that you found it at Forever 21! You must be enjoying your little bit of Fall up there...especially since South Cal summers go on forever. I'm jealous! Fall is my favorite season and it seems as though our Falls are getting shorter and shorter each year. Last year it didn't really cool down until after Thanksgiving!

It was so hot this weekend but today is about 20 degrees cooler. (but humid)

I'm going to email you later today. :)

  16. That sounds like here, hot and gorgeous in the day and fake fur weather at night. There was a distinct Autumnal nip in the air at 6am this morning which makes me feel rather melancholy.
